Heat, moisture, road salt and UV exposure can leave black engine components looking faded, gray or white. Regular care restores their appearance and helps prevent future corrosion—without heavy polishing or professional detailing.

Why Does a Harley-Davidson® Engine Turn White?
The pale, chalky buildup often seen around cooling fins and engine cases is known as whiting. It can develop through exposure to moisture, oxidation, road salt and repeated heat cycles.
Treat it early. Dirt and moisture left around bolts, fasteners and recessed areas can make the finish harder to restore and increase the risk of corrosion.
Start with a Proper Clean
Work on a completely cool motorcycle out of direct sunlight. Rinse away loose dirt, then apply Bike Wash to the exterior engine surfaces.
Leave it for three to five minutes without allowing it to dry. Gently clean between the cooling fins and around fasteners with the 3X Brush Kit, then rinse thoroughly.
Dry the engine paying extra attention to areas where water can collect.
Bring Back the Black with Protect & Shine
Once the engine is clean, it's time for Protect & Shine, shake the can vigorously and apply it to the engine and other suitable surfaces.
The water-dispersing formula drives out remaining moisture, reduces the appearance of whiting and restores a deep black finish. Wipe away excess product with a clean microfiber cloth and allow the protective film to dry.
The dry, non-sticky layer also helps prevent dirt adhesion, rust and corrosion. Apply Protect & Shine after washing, wet-weather rides, road-salt exposure and before winter storage.
Important: Mask braking surfaces before application. Keep the product away from brake rotors, brake pads, tires, grips and foot controls.
